Ready to make some noise? 🥁 Join us at Dance Mission Theater for an energizing, hands-on taiko drumming workshop. We’ll spend the evening learning the basics of this powerful Japanese drumming tradition while getting a chance to move, connect, and have fun with the Parlay House community.
No prior experience is necessary, just bring your curiosity and a willingness to give it a try! Wear comfortable clothes you can sweat in and bring a water bottle. Get ready to unleash your power into the drum!
Instructor Bio:
Deb'e Taylor has over 30 years experience as a dancer, actor and taiko drummer. She trained in taiko with Grandmaster Sensei Seichi Tanaka, who first introduced taiko to the U.S and founded San Francisco Taiko Dojo, as well as Jimi Nakagawa, master performer, teacher, and co-founder of Somei Yoshino Taiko Ensemble. She has studied additionally with many stellar taiko players from Japan and the U.S., and has performed with Taiko Ren, Kizakura, and Maikaze Daiko. She currently performs with Dance Brigade, who incorporates taiko into their Social Justice Dance/Theater performances. Deb'e teaches taiko and creates performance pieces for Dance Brigade's Grrrl Brigade and Youth Programs, and teaches beginning workshop series regularly to adults at Dance Mission.
This is a partner event at Dance Mission Theater, so your ticket includes a venue fee to help cover the cost of hosting the experience at their space.
